stuff your envelopes

start a new budget

Starting a new budget is how you stuff your envelopes. You share out the money you have until there’s nothing left to stuff. It also ends your current budget period and starts the next one.

Start it in any of these ways:

• On the envelopes tab, tap stuff now. It shows from your planned stuffing day until you stuff your envelopes, when no money is waiting to be stuffed.
• On the envelopes tab, tap … at the top right, then stuff now. This works on any day.
• If money is waiting to be stuffed, tap stuff now at the top of the envelopes tab. The button shows how much is ready to stuff.

The new budget has four steps. continue takes you to the next step and previous takes you back. cancel on the first step closes it and saves nothing.

1. budget recap

What happened since you last stuffed:

• you started with: what you had when you last stuffed.
• you spent: what you spent from your envelopes. Tap it to see the list. To add something you missed, tap add transaction there.
• you made: your income. If it’s $0.00 and you got paid, tap tap to add income. Otherwise, tap it to see your income, and tap add income to add more.
• you have: what you have now, which is what you started with, plus what you made, minus what you spent. If it doesn’t match your bank, see match the app to your bank.

Tap continue.

2. budget timing

• budget next on: the day you’ll stuff next. To change it, tap the date and pick a day. It can be today or later.
• and then: the budget after that one.
• frequency: every week, every second week, twice a month or once a month. For once a month or twice a month, pick the day or days of the month and tap update.

Tap continue.

3. stuff your budget

The top of the screen shows how much is left to stuff, with remaining under it.

1. Tap an envelope.
2. Type its new balance on the keypad. See suggested amounts and the keypad.
3. Do the same for your other envelopes until remaining is $0.00. The top then says all stuffed.
4. Tap continue.

Each envelope shows its balance now and the change you made. continue works only when remaining is exactly $0.00. If you stuffed more than you have, the app says how much is over-stuffed: take some money out of an envelope. If you stuffed less, it says how much is under-stuffed.

Need another envelope? Tap add envelope.

4. review

Check how much goes to each type of envelope. Tap a type to see each envelope’s new balance. When it looks right, tap stuff it.

Your envelopes now hold their new balances. Your next budget is due on the budget next on day.
