1. envelope budgeting in plain words
An envelope is money set aside for one purpose, such as groceries, rent or a holiday. In Budget Bestie, an envelope lives in the app.
Stuffing means choosing how much of your money goes into each envelope. You record purchases as you make them, and the app takes each amount out of the envelope you chose.
a small example
Section titled “a small example”You have $500 to budget with. You put $300 in groceries, $100 in transport and $100 in savings. All $500 has a purpose.
You spend $50 on groceries and record it. Groceries now has $250 left. Transport and savings keep their $100 each.
If groceries needs another $20, you can move $20 from transport. Groceries goes up by $20, and transport goes down by $20. The total money you have stays the same.
These are changes to your plan in the app. Budget Bestie does not connect to your bank or move money between bank accounts.
where it shows in the app
Section titled “where it shows in the app”The envelopes tab shows what is left in your envelopes. Open one to see its balance and transactions. The overview tab shows your calendar and money in and out. The + tab, add transaction, is where you record spending, income or a transfer.
Your envelopes show the money available for each purpose. Keep recording what happens so the amounts stay useful.
