A quick reference for the words in Budget Bestie. Follow a link for an example or the steps.

Money set aside for one purpose, such as groceries. Its balance is what is currently available for that purpose. Read an envelope.

Putting money into your envelopes in the app. If you put $100 into groceries, you have stuffed it with $100. This does not move money at your bank. How stuffing works.

Money you have recorded but have not put in an envelope yet. The dashboard also calls it unstuffed. Find money ready to stuff.

The time between one budget you create and the next. The next budgeting date is a planned date, not an expiry. Budget periods and paydays.

An envelope for spending that can change, such as groceries or eating out. Envelope types.

An envelope for a recurring bill, with a payment amount and schedule. Set up a bill.

An envelope for money you want to keep toward a goal. The goal amount and deadline are optional. Save toward a goal.

A transfer between envelopes. Moving $20 adds $20 to one envelope and takes $20 from another. Your budget total stays the same. Move money.

An envelope with a balance below zero. If it was $50 and you spent $70, it is $20 over. Cover overspending.

A day with no recorded expenses from envelopes that end a no-spend day. The app uses both “spend-free” and “no-spend” for this idea. Spend-free days.

Your choice of which envelopes end a no-spend day. On the spend tracking screen, a switch that is on means spending from that envelope will not end one. This choice does not remove expenses from spending totals. Choose your envelopes.

An expected expense from a fixed envelope’s payment schedule. An upcoming bill only reduces the envelope after you record it. Confirm a paid bill.

The review of the budget you are finishing before you stuff again. It shows what came in, what you spent and what you have. Start your next budget.

The total the app has recorded, including money in envelopes and money ready to stuff. You can correct it in budget recap if it differs from the real money you track. Match the app to your bank.
