set up a bill and its dates
set up a payment schedule
Section titled “set up a payment schedule”A fixed envelope holds a bill that’s about the same every time, like rent or a phone plan. Its payment amount and schedule tell the app what the bill is and when it’s due.
- On add envelope or edit envelope, under envelope type, tap fixed envelope.
- Tap payment amount.
- Type the bill amount.
- Tap done on the keypad.
- Under payment schedule, tap set schedule.
- On payment frequency, tap the date you plan to pay this bill next.
- To help the app find the pattern, tap more dates you’ll pay it.
- Under select a suggested frequency, tap the one that matches. The schedule fills in and the sheet closes.
- Tap save envelope.
You need both a payment amount and a schedule to save a fixed envelope.
To open add envelope or edit envelope, see add, edit or reorder envelopes.
pick the dates for your pattern
Section titled “pick the dates for your pattern”The app suggests up to four schedules from the dates you tap. For example:
- One date gives monthly suggestions, like paid on the 15th of each month, and a yearly one that starts with paid annually on.
- Two dates in the same month give twice a month, like paid on the 1st and 15th of each month. This works when both days are the 28th or earlier, or one of them is the last day of the month.
- Two dates on the same day of the month, some months apart, give a schedule for that gap, like paid on the 15th every other month.
- A weekly bill needs two dates on the same weekday. Two Fridays 14 days apart give paid every 2nd friday.
Tap reset to clear your dates and start again. Tap × to close without changing the schedule.
After you save, the envelope shows the schedule in its schedule card.
To change the schedule:
- On the envelopes tab, tap the envelope.
- Tap edit at the top right.
- Under payment schedule, tap change schedule. The calendar starts empty.
- Tap your dates again.
- Under select a suggested frequency, tap the one that matches.
- Tap save envelope.
bills that do not come every month
Section titled “bills that do not come every month”Use the same date picker for a bill that comes every few months or once a year. For a yearly bill, select its next payment date and choose the suggestion that starts with paid annually on. For a bill every three months, select two payment dates three months apart on the same day of the month, then choose the matching suggestion.
For example, a $300 bill every three months still has a payment amount of $300. Do not enter $100 just because you want to set aside money monthly. The schedule tells the app when the full $300 is due.
The suggested key during stuffing helps plan for the bill across budgets. Your envelope keeps money between budgets, so you can build it up before the payment date. How suggestions work explains the amount.
