variable, fixed and savings envelopes

An envelope’s type tells the app whether it is for variable spending, a recurring bill or savings.

Use a variable envelope for spending that changes, such as groceries. If you stuff $200 and spend $50, it has $150 left.

You choose what to put in each time. When the app has enough history, the suggested key can help you choose an amount.

Use a fixed envelope for a bill with a payment amount and schedule. For a $100 phone bill, enter $100 as the payment amount and set the dates you pay it.

The schedule adds bills to your upcoming list. The money stays in the envelope until you record the payment. Set up a bill and its dates.

Use a savings envelope for money you want to keep toward something, such as a holiday. If you have saved $200 toward a $600 goal, the envelope shows $200 saved.

You can add a goal amount and a goal deadline, or leave them out. Save toward a goal.

Envelopes are grouped by type on envelopes. You choose the type under envelope type when you create or edit one.

All three types keep the money left in them when you start another budget. The type changes how the app describes and plans for the envelope, not whether the money carries forward.

Add an envelope or change its type. For the details behind the suggested key, see suggested amounts and the keypad.
