retire, restore, merge or delete an envelope
Three ways to stop using an envelope:
- Retire it to hide it and keep its history. You can restore it later.
- Merge it to move its balance and all its transactions into another envelope.
- Delete it to remove it for good. Its past transactions stay in your history.
All three start from the envelope’s edit screen, in the envelope management section at the bottom.
retire an envelope
Section titled “retire an envelope”Retiring hides an envelope from your envelopes and keeps all its transactions.
- On the envelopes tab, tap the envelope.
- Tap edit at the top right.
- Scroll to envelope management at the bottom.
- Tap retire envelope.
- If the balance isn’t $0.00, tap select an envelope under balance transfer.
- Choose the envelope that gets the money. If the balance is below $0.00, choose the envelope the money comes from.
- Tap retire envelope.
- Tap retire envelope again to confirm.
You’re back on envelopes, and the envelope is gone from the list. Upcoming bills for it are removed until you restore it.
restore a retired envelope
Section titled “restore a retired envelope”Restoring puts a retired envelope back with your other envelopes. Its past transactions are still there.
- On the envelopes tab, tap … at the top right.
- Tap settings.
- Under general, tap retired envelopes.
- Tap restore on the envelope you want back.
- Tap restore to confirm.
The money you moved out when you retired it stays where you moved it. A fixed envelope’s upcoming bills come back.
To look at a retired envelope without restoring it, tap view.
merge an envelope
Section titled “merge an envelope”Merging moves an envelope’s balance and all its transactions into another envelope, then removes it.
- On the envelopes tab, tap the envelope.
- Tap edit at the top right.
- Scroll to envelope management at the bottom.
- Tap merge envelope.
- Under transfer details, tap select an envelope.
- Choose the envelope to merge into.
- Tap merge envelope.
- Tap merge envelope again to confirm.
You can’t undo a merge. If the envelope has a payment schedule, the schedule moves too, unless the other envelope already has its own.
delete an envelope
Section titled “delete an envelope”Deleting removes an envelope for good. Your past transactions stay in your spending history.
- On the envelopes tab, tap the envelope.
- Tap edit at the top right.
- Scroll to envelope management at the bottom.
- Tap delete envelope.
- If the balance isn’t $0.00, tap select an envelope under balance transfer.
- Choose the envelope that gets the money. If the balance is below $0.00, choose the envelope the money comes from.
- Tap delete.
- Tap delete envelope to confirm.
Anything scheduled or upcoming for the envelope is cancelled. You can’t undo this in the app.
if you have no other envelope
Section titled “if you have no other envelope”An envelope with money in it, or below $0.00, needs another envelope for that balance. Retired envelopes don’t count. If you have no other envelope, create one first, or bring the balance to $0.00. A merge always needs a second envelope.
